Vatican City: Leaders of Christian churches with a call for peace on Christmas Day with South Sudan leaders continuing to disagree. On Christmas morning, Pope Francis made a joint request for peace with Anglican Archbishop Justin Welby and the moderator of the Presbyterian Church, John Calmers. Leaders of the message called on the people to make peace and prosperity during the holy days of Christmas and New Year, when the South Sudan peace deal was signed.

The leaders said in a message that their prayers would be extended to the temporary ruling leadership and the people of South Sudan in the event of an emergency. The message states that the Savior Christ prays for the people of South Sudan to come forward with a new offering on the path of reconciliation and fraternity, and wishes that the blessings of God and blessings of the whole nation are on the increase.

The message of the three spiritual leaders ends with the hope that the King of Peace, Jesus, will lead us on the path of goodness and truth. South Sudan, the Muslim-majority country that gained independence in 2011, has today become a hotbed of riots. Even on Christmas Day, there was a conflict between the rebels and the military-backed Provisional Government. It is in this backdrop that the Pope urgently makes a joint request for peace before the Provisional Government.
