Pala, Kottayam: The Head of the Indian Syro Malabar Church, Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar George Alenchery blessed the Diocese of Pala’s Mar Sleeva Medicity in Cherpunkal on 15th September 2019. The Cardinal in his address mentioned that healing service had an integral part in Christ’s service. Similarly, the hospital tends to proclaim mercy and healing service to the world. He further continued to say that the hospital is a role model for all those who believe in collective working towards social welfare. 

The hospital comes as a result of the effort undertaken by the Palai Medical Education Trust (PDMET), which was formed in 2005 under the guidance of His Excellency Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt. Apart from Mar Kallarangattu, Mar Jacob Muricken, Mar Mathew Arrackkal, Mar Joseph Pallikkaparambil, Mar Jose Pulickal, Mar Thomas Tharayil and Mar John Nellikunnel co- participated in the blessing ceremony. Many Influentials from the social and political sectors attended the ceremony. Few among them were Former Kerala Chief Minister Umman Chandi, MPs Jose K. Mani, Thomas Chazhikadan, Anto Antony, MLAs  P J Joseph, Thiruvanjur Radhakrishnan, Mons Joseph, Roshi Augustine, P C George, Suresh Kurup and so on. 

The hospital is open for the public to visit and view the amenities from 15th September to 23rd September 2019. The hospital management has declared these days as ‘Open Day’ for the public. Outdoor and Indoor Patients department would begin from the first week of October. Thereby, the official inauguration of the Hospital would take place. The hospital boasts of seventeen super speciality and twenty-two speciality departments, apart from Ayurvedic and Homeopathy treatment facilities. As a mark of reverence, the faithful brought the statue of the Infant Jesus and Mother Mary from the Forane church in Cherpunkal and the church in Kuravilangad respectively.
