Holy Father Pope Francis while addressing the faithful gathered for the Holy Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary Major in Rome, conveyed the role of Mary, especially as a Mother in our life. His Holiness Pope Francis highlighted that the presence of Mother Mary makes the temple a family for our children and so are able to recognize the Church as our home, the home where we rest.

As reported by Vatican Radio, Holy Father Pope Francis remarked that “Mary never despises our petitions but always answers them promptly just as, she promptly went to Elizabeth in her time of need, as we hear in the Gospels.” Further, His Holiness added, “The Lord Himself knows that we need shelter and protection in the midst of the many dangers we face in life. It is precisely for this reason that from the Cross Jesus entrusted St. John, the beloved disciple; and all His disciples to His blessed Mother.”

His Holiness Pope Francis concluded his homily by exhorting the faithful that we too must take Mary into our own homes, inviting her to our homes, our hearts, our lives.
