The faithful of the diocese of Kalyan have begun walking for the annual pilgrimage ‘Mahatheerthadanam 2018’ with full of energy and prayers. The enthusiastic young hearts of the diocese of Kalyan has set all the arrangements needed for the ‘Mahatheerthadanam’ to make the journey more comfortable and convenient for all the faithful participants. The Diocese of Kalyan has dedicated this year’s Mahatheerthadanam with the main intention to pray for the peace and unity of the Syro-Malabar Church, especially focusing on the recent developments in the issues regarding the alienation of certain properties of Ernakulam – Angamaly Archdiocese. ‘Mahatheerthadanam 2018’ also focuses to help and empower the farmers who feed the nation.

The walking pilgrimage from Tikujiniwadi Church to Kalyan Cathedral has got thousands of participants including the priests, powerful youth of the diocese and other elders. The faithful of the diocese are asked to pray for the Church throughout the journey. In his circular,  His Grace Bishop Elavanal of Kalyan Diocese had urged the faithful to pray ardently, taking sacrifices that are in spirit with the season of Lent for the Church.

Mahatheerthadanam is considered as one among the most spiritual initiative of the diocese of Kalyan to bring all the faithful together under one umbrella of love and compassion during the season of Lent. Through this walking pilgrimage, the faithful express their love in sharing the true sufferings of Jesus Christ and considers this walk as a sign of repentance and penance in life.
