The Kerala Catholic Youth Movement organized a protest rally in Kottayam expressing their grief and choler over the murder of Kevin Joseph in Kerala. Kevin Joseph was killed by his wife’s family, on May 28, five days after he married 20-year-old Neenu Chacko of an affluent Christian family in Kollam district against the wishes of her family. KYCM protested against the police officers who failed take immediate and proper actions in the case on the first day of the complaint itself. The victim’s father and wife had told media that they had approached police soon after he was kidnapped but officers refused to entertain them, saying they were busy arranging security for a visit by Pinaryi Vijayan, the state’s chief minister.

The energetic youth of KCYM raised their voice against this brutal injustice and conveyed that “This brutal murder itself is an example that the olden culture of caste discrimination and religion inequality are still interfering the society and are again getting back to the people.” The diocesan president Thomas Kurian presided over the rally.

Neenu’s brother Shanu Chacko is the first accused in the case, while their father Chacko was made the 14th accused earlier.
