Dhanbad, Jharkhand: De Nobili School of Koradih, Jharkhand has witnessed the blow after three staff: the Vice- Principal, class teacher and a nurse, were accused of alleged rape of an 8-year-old studying in grade 4. According to the POCSO (Protection of Children against Sexual Harassment) Act, the case also demands charges of sexual assault and harassment. The police conducted a medical examination of the victim at the Patliputra Medical College, on Sunday morning. Though preliminary tests show positive, few more tests are pending since the swabs are yet to be tested. Under the supervision of the Dean of College, seven departments have been assigned to execute the tests.
If reports are to be believed, Fr. Julian has been arrested by the police officials following the filing of an FIR by the girl’s parents, while the nurse was taken for further interrogation. Fearing agitation, the school was closed down for two days after the incident came to light and as a precautionary measure, the officials have suspended the three accused from school. As a sign of protest, the residents of Koradih led a candlelight march in the streets of the area. Also, the angry mob burned the effigy of the school management.
The police have reported that the girl was very scared throughout the duration of various tests that were conducted. In her statement, she recounted that she used to fall sick very often, hence had to visit the sick room in the school. On one such recent occasion, the nurse gave her medicine, after which she fell unconscious. She only remembers feeling odd about sensing touch in her private parts.
The reports will be received on Monday. Considering the statement of the child, and the medical examination results, the police will initiate further processes. “Whoever is guilty, he will surely get punishment,” said a police officer who wished to stay anonymous.
