All India Catholic Union (AICU) expressed immense joy and gratitude over the release of Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil, Keralite Catholic priest who was abducted by terrorists in Yemen and had been in captivity since March 2016. In a press release, AICU highlighted that the prayers and fasting conducted by All India Catholic Union have borne fruit and they thanked the Lord Almighty for answering their prayers and for the grace bestowed on Fr. Tom and his family and the Salesian Congregation and the Catholic Church.

The press release stated that “ AICU takes this opportunity to convey its deep gratitude to the Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Srimati Sushma Swaraj, the Minister of External Affairs and the Government of India for persistently and sincerely working through dialogue with concerned agencies to obtain the release of Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil.” Further, it added, “In fact, Honourable Foreign Minister has been assuring during meetings with the leaders that Fr. Tom was safe and that the government would do everything to get him released and she has fulfilled her assurance.”

AICU concluded the press release by placing on record its gratitude to all for their immense faith in God and thanked the Lord Almighty who in His goodness and mercy has heard and answered the prayers. AICU also thanked all the men and women of goodwill who stood with them with prayer and encouragement during the last eighteen months.
