We all have been brought up in a catholic environment where during Lent we abstain from consuming meant. Though it is a subjective choice most of us simply follow it blindly. It is time we look into why and how we can contribute to the betterment of the environment by refraining from meat.

A major chunk of or grain production, agricultural investment and resources goes into feeding farm animals or even those cultured industrial for commercial meat. Raising and rearing animals for food mostly contribute to pollute groundwater resources. It takes more land to raise animals for food than it does to produce the equivalent nutritional value by raising edible plants. The worst part is the way in which these animals are reared commercially, using drugs and supplements for higher yield. Aren’t these reasons enough to reconsider our choice of meal?

We can definitely have a well-balanced diet by going all green! One decision can go a long way in changing our lifestyle, for good! And with this, we can make our Lent more meaningful as we have the best interest of the environment in mind – the creation of God!
