LAGOS: A Catholic nun has died after a gas pipeline explosion in Nigeria rescued school children from the blaze. Sister Henrietta Aloka, principal of Bethlehem Girls High School in Lagos, died after the roof of the building collapsed after she was rescued by a group of schoolgirls following the blast. At least 17 people have been killed and about 25 others injured in Sunday’s blast at the Abuele Addo Community in Lagos State.

Lagos bishop Alfred Martins said the deceased Sister Aloha SSH and staff had paid the highest price to keep the children safe and let their souls rest in peace. The priest who was presenting the Holy Mass at the school also participated in the rescue. The explosion occurred when the truck crashed into gas cylinders stored at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
