NEW DELHI: Mahatma Gandhi’s most-loved Christian song ‘Abide with Me’ was withdrawn at the conclusion of Republic Day. The Army has stated that “Abide With Me” will not be excluded from the Beating Retreat this year amid widespread protests. Earlier, officials said the song was being omitted to include new songs. ‘Abide With Me’ is a song written by Scottish Anglican writer Henry Francis Light. It is also the only English song to be sung in 45-minute republican instruments. Republic Day celebrations conclude with the lighting of Raisina Hills, where the Rashtrapati Bhavan is located, when ‘Abide with Me’ is read.
