On  3rd  July  2017,  Pope  Francis,  while  addressing  the   staffs  and  employees  of  the  Rome  based  United  Nations  Food  Agency,  assembled  together  for  their   40th  General  Conference,  expressed  his  intense  concern  towards  the  people  who  starves  and  are  under  poverty   across  the  globe.  His  holiness  reminded  the  people  that  the  primary  mission  of  Food  and  Agricultural  Organization  (FAO)  is  to  help  eliminate  hunger,  food   insecurity  and  malnutrition  across  the  globe.

At  the  opening  of  the  Conference,  the  Director – General  of  FAO,  Jose  Graziano  Da  Silva  conveyed that  the  number  of  the  hungry  people  in  the  world  has  increased  since  the  year  2015. Further, he  added  that  almost  60  percent  of  the  people  suffering  from  poverty  lives  in  the  conflict  based  countries   and  also  in  the  countries  facing  climatic  challenges.  As  reported  by  the  official  Vatican  network,  Pope  Francis  highlighted  that  “It  depends  on  the  duty  of  the  entire  human  family  to  provide  practical  assistance  to  those  in  need  and  there  is  an  urgent  need  for  solidarity  to  be  the  criterion  inspiring  all  forms  of  cooperation  in  international  relations.”

His  Holiness  concluded  the  conference  by  making  a  symbolic  contribution  to  the  FAO  programme  that  will  be  providing  seeds  to  rural  families  in  conflict  and  drought  affected  areas  on  October  16th,  World  Food  Day  and  promised  his  presence  on  the  day.
