A fruit and veg stall in Aden, Yemen

The on-going civil war in Yemen has become a great concern for all the faithful living the country, in which the deadly cholera outbreak could continue indefinitely without an end to the war. The Bishops in the region have asked the faithful all over the world to pray for Yemen and notified the deteriorating conditions of the Churches in the country by explaining it as a tiny group without any structure that can do little in the face of the situation.

As reported by Catholic News Agency, His Excellency Bishop Paul Hinder, who heads the Abu Dhabi-based Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Arabia, remarked that “We have to keep in mind that in the Yemen conflict there are no pure angels on one side and pure devils on the other.” Further, His Grace continued “Without bringing people again around the table and getting to a cease fire, there will be only killing and destruction with disastrous consequences for the civilian population and the country as a whole.”

In March 2016, an attack on a Missionaries of Charity house in Aden, Yemen, left four sisters dead and the attackers kidnapped Indian-born Salesian priest Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil who is still under their custody with no whereabouts known.
