In order to end the armed insurgency in the Philippines, the church leaders in the country called for resumption of peace talks between the government and communist rebels. The call was made at the end of a three-day ecumenical church leader’s summit on peace, which was organized by a network of Catholic and Protestant peace advocates. A statement titled “Peace is Possible” signed by His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro on behalf of the Catholic Bishops and Rev. Rex Reyes Jr. of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines.
