Catholic educational institutions in Bangladesh have got significant roles to play in the academic sector in a student’s life despite being a small minority in the country. They have continued their excellent run of academic performances irrespective of  a drop in the national college marks average. However, 97.75 percent of students from 10 church-run schools passed. The rate was down from 74.70 percent in 2016.

As reported by ucanews.com, Nurul Islam Nahid, education minister of Bangladesh remarked that “The fall in the success rate and the number of highest achievers was not surprising and there is nothing to be surprised about, we are getting the right assessment now.” Holy Cross Father Hemonto P.Rozario, the principal of the Notre Dame College in Dhaka, asserted that “We have always been on top or near the top but it is not our goal because our primary objective is to ensure comprehensive and quality education.”

The Catholic Church runs a university, 13 colleges and 50 primary or high schools, providing education to an estimated number of 100,000 students each year, of which most of them are Muslims.
