In a Pastoral Letter, the Bishops’ Conference invoked the priests, religious and the faithful in Sierra Leone to participate and engage them in a peaceful manner in the political election which is expected to take place on March 7, 2018.  The Bishops also suggested the faithful in the country especially those who are eligible for voting, to cast their votes without any external provocations and any acts of violence.

As reported by the Vatican news, the Bishops through the Pastoral Letter conveyed that “It is our duty to engage in the dialogue over our country’s future and the Sierra Leone we want for all.”  It reminded that, “As a Church, we should not afford to shy away from political participation but our involvement cannot be partisan and our cause is to defend our country and its citizens from political manipulator by educating all citizens to vote wisely and responsibly.”

The Pastoral Letter focused on various topics including present political landscape, the Risen Christ our strength and light, sentiments of Gratitude.  Bishops thanked Dr.Ernest Bai Koroma, the President of Sierra Leone for announcing in good time the date of elections to align peace in the country by boosting young democracy.  The country has held three peaceful general elections since the end of the civil war 15years ago.
