Kannur: Bishops and clergymen staged a fast in front of the Collectorate today in support of the North Malabar peasants’ agitation. Archbishop of Thalassery Mar George Naralakattu, assistant bishop Mar Joseph Pamplani, the bishop of Kottayam diocese Mar Joseph Pandarasheril and about 200 priests of the diocese of Thalassery, Kannur and Kottayam have fasted. Representatives, political leaders, and leaders from the social, cultural and business sectors flowed in solidarity with the fast.

The bishops and clergy arrived at the fasting in front of the collectorate after offering flowers at the Gandhi statue at the Kannur Mahatma Mandir. The Diocese of Kottayam inaugurated the fast by Mar Joseph Pandarasheer. Kannur Amruthanandamayi Mutt Swami Amrita Kripanandapuri delivered the blessing speech. Thalassery Archbishop Mar George Naralakkad presided over the function. Assistant Bishop Mar Joseph Pamplani gave the keynote address.

Chairman of the Uttara Malabar Farmers’ Movement Joseph gave the solemn oath of solidarity. Poet and composer Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri expressed his greetings with his own poetry. The MPs, Sudhakaran, Jose K. Mani and MLAs KC Joseph, Sunny Joseph and James Mathew spoke.
