Since over a week, Kerala has been battered by heavy rain and landslides. The state is witnessing its worst monsoon since over a century in terms of the impact. His Grace Bishop Mar Thomas Elavanal of Kalyan Diocese, Mumbai, has urged all the faithful of the diocese to pray and support Kerala in every possible ways.

In a recent circular from the Bishop, Mar Thomas Elavanal remarked that ‘I exhort you to remember and pray in our Holy Qurbana for the departed souls and for those affected by the floods and landslides. I also recommend conducting special prayer services and adoration for their intention. In solidarity with our suffering brothern, let us minimize all our celebrations and contribute the saved amount to the relief works of the affected places.” Further, His Grace added, “I remind you of our responsibility to help and support financially the people who are left with nothing but life. You may contribute individually or as parish community to the ‘Karunya Trust’ of our Eparchy, who will make sure that your donations reach the causes of flood relief works.” The Bishop also reminded that usable home appliances can also be donated to the Trust and it will do the needful to reach them to the affected people.

Mar Thomas Elavanal concluded his circular by urging the faithful to “pray to the Lord Almighty who is the Creator and preserver of the nature, to protect us from the natural calamities and destructions.”
