PALA: A joint session of bishops in Paula called for the abolition of the implementation of the abortion law. The meeting, led by the bishops of Changanassery, Pala, Kanjirapally and Takkala diocese, protested with strong opposition and demanded the withdrawal of the bill. The Abortion Amendment Bill is an abuse of personal liberty and a diamond weapon to undermine family life. Attempts to abortion and to limit the allowed period to 24 weeks are condemned.

Human life must be respected and unconditionally protected from the moment of conception. No mother, nation, doctor or public authority can block the natural right of the unborn child. The effort to acquire the authority to do so can never be justified. The meeting stated that abortion is more cruel and immoral than murder and cannot be accepted for any reason. Archbishop Mar Joseph Perunthottam, Mar Joseph Kallarangat, Mar Mathew Arakkal, Mar George Rajendran, Mar Jose Pulikkal and Mar Thomas Tharayil were also present.
